Stein, Gottfried (*1932) Germany

Gottfried Stein was born in Frankfurt/Main in 1932. After his A-levels, he studied music with the focus on conducting and composition. Not convinced by the alternatives of the fifties ("Darmstadt School" or "Moderate Modernism") he gave up his composition studies with Wolfgang Fortner prematurely. Subsequently Gottfried Stein worked as a theatre conductor, teacher at music school and conservatoire.
His oeuvre includes compositions for various ensembles, such as chamber, choral, piano or orchestral music.
