Thomas Voigt was born in Sömmerda in 1960. At the district music school of Erfurt, he got lessons in piano and composition, later also percussion. He studied conducting at the Franz Liszt College in Weimar. In 1985 he started his first engagement as a solo-repetiteur with conducting duties at the provincial theatre of Eisenach.  In 1988, he went as a bandmaster to the provincial theatre of Altenburg. Since 1990 he has been working at varying theatres as a leader of the theatrical music, first in Chemnitz, from 2000 to 2003 in Greifswald and since 2003 in Rudolstadt. As a former member of the chamber choir of the Franz Liszt College of Weimar and long-time member of the Camerata Vocale Zwickau, he as a composer feels closely linked to the choral music particularly.
