Surges, Franz (1958-2015) Germany

Franz Surges was born in Remagen on the Rhine in 1958. He completed music studies at the Episcopal Church of Music "St. Gregory House“ in Aachen and at the conservatoire in Cologne. At the same time, he underwent composition studies with Tilo Medek. He received the A-Certificate in Catholic Church music as well as diplomas in organ and compositional technique.
Numerous pieces of his works have won major prizes at national and international composition competitions, among others, at the International Composition Competition of the city of Schwäbisch Gmünd in the context with the festivities "European Church Music."
Franz Surges lived and worked in Eschweiler. There, he was employed as a church musician, choir director, music teacher and composer.
