Emeritus Professor Peter Becker was born in 1934 in Glatz, Silesia. After studying music education and literature in Cologne he spent some time as a trainee teacher in Göttingen. Then he worked as a teacher of music and German at the Gymnasium (Grammar School) in Bad Iburg/TW for eight years. In 1970 he accepted an appointment as a Professor of Music Education and Director of Music Education at the Academy of Music and Drama, of which he then was president from 1993 to 1997. From 2001 to 2007 he was the first chairman of the Hermann Schroeder Society.
Peter Becker has worked as a choral conductor, accompanist and chamber musician for many years. The focus of his compositional work, which owes important impulses to his teacher Hermann Schroeder, lies in the choral field (cantatas, motets, songs sets).
