Velten, Klaus (*1937) Germany

Klaus Velten was born on August 3rd, 1937 in Herne/Westphalia. After the Abitur (school-leaving certificate) he studied school music, choral management, piano accompaniment, music science and German studies at the College of Music in Cologne as well as at the University of Cologne. Hermann Schröder (compositional technique/composition) and Karl Gustav Feilerer (music science) belonged to his teachers. After ten years of teaching at a grammar school he changed to the institute of music teacher training of the Technical College in Aachen as a college lecturer. At the same time he accepted a lectureship at the College of Music in Cologne. From 1979 to 2002 he worked as a professor for music theory and music education at the College of Music and Theatre in Saarbrucken. He headed the college from 1990 to 1995. Apart from his main-work activity he was involved as a choirmaster in the amateur music scene.
