Zimpel, Sylke (*1959) Germany
Sylke Zimpel was born in Dresden in 1959. She studied composition at Dresden and ten years later, choral conducting in Weimar and Lyon. Since 1986 she has been working as a freelance composer and organiser of experimental conducting courses for choirmasters and cantors. The focus of her compositional work lies on the settings of modern poetry for all genres and choral arrangements of folk songs, especially from Eastern Europe. She is the prize winner of several composition competitions. Regarding her conducting activities, she is active as a founder and director of the “
chorbühne TRITONUS dresden” and conducts the female choir
femmes vocals. Zimpel`s work with both choirs focuses on the performance of contemporary choral music as well as international folk songs in new arrangements.
