Schilling, Sebastian (*1981) Germany

Sebastian Schilling was born in Karl-Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz) in 1981. At the age of 15 years, he began his musical education, among others with Chamber Music Director Günther Reinhold (piano, organ and choral management) as well as with Wolfgang Richter (choral management, conducting). After the Abitur (school-leaving certificate) (1999) at the Chemnitz Dr.-Wilhelm-André-Gymnasium (grammar school) with advanced music course, he studied at the Protestant College of Church Music in Halle from 2000 to 2002 and from 2002 to 2004 at the College of Church Music in Dresden. His musical understanding was decisively shaped by Prof. Dr Christfried Brödel (choir management) and Steffen Walther (organ). Also with Prof. Brödel, he finished a postgraduate course in choral management.
Since January 2006, Sebastian Schilling has been working as a church musician in the Protestant Trinity and Saint Marcus churches in Chemnitz. Next to  numerous original and first performances of contemporary church music, Sebastian Schilling is involved in the revival and care of a cultural protestant tradition in Chemnitz, for instance by the concept of events and projects like the Chemnitz Cantata Cycle, the Chemnitz Organ Walk or the Chemnitz Christmas.
